Allegedly one of Derbyshire’s most haunted pubs! There have been several unexplained sightings and happenings going on, from glasses flying off shelves at the staff and smashing on the floor and then finding there’s no broken glass. A little girl seen running behind the bar, an older gentleman seen leaning against the door, and a small dog running around, and several other sightings. Christmas decorations swinging and falling off the tree. Footsteps and the sound of a dog running upstairs when there is no one else there. The list goes on. The building dates back to the 1600s with allegedly a tunnel underneath from the cellar that goes to Wingfield Manor. Previous paranormal investigations held at the pub have identified several spirits including the famous Mary Queen of Scott’s, who was held captive a 5 minute walk away in the tower at the now derelict South Wingfield Manor. It is reported she used the tunnels to meet with the priests in the cellar of the Old Yew Tree Inn to take Holy Communion.
